Spain, with its vast expanse of 193,000 square miles and a population of 48 million people (comparable to the combined populations of Texas and Pennsylvania), has increasingly become a home away from home for many Americans. But which cities are attracting them the most?

From the rainy landscapes of Galicia to the bustling capital of Madrid and down to the sun-kissed Mediterranean coast, the website Move to Spain has shared an insightful analysis. It reveals that Málaga ranks as the second most popular city for Americans to settle in, with 157 per 100,000 people, just after Madrid with 171, and ahead of Barcelona with 142.

What’s the appeal?

Málaga’s charm lies in its perfect blend of culture, climate, and cost of living. Lodged in the heart of Andalucía, Málaga is both a city and the capital of the Málaga province. This region is part of Andalucía, known for its stunning beaches, charming white-washed villages, and vibrant cities like Seville and Granada. Málaga province itself includes other well-known and favourite destinations among Americans, such as Marbella and Estepona, along with all the desirable neighbourhoods in between.

According to Move to Spain, Americans are increasingly choosing Andalucía for its sunny climate, vibrant community, and relaxed way of life. The region’s rich history, delicious cuisine, and stunning landscapes make it a popular choice for families and retirees alike.

Another attractive aspect for many Americans is the cost of living, which is generally lower than in the United States. Expats find they can enjoy a high quality of life for less, making it an economical yet fulfilling choice. To see for yourself, Move to Spain offers an online calculator to determine the cost of living in various cities across the country.

The reasons why Americans are “living the American Dream” in Málaga are numerous. Read our full article here for more on why Málaga is such an attractive destination.
